Hinsdale County maintains a local transfer station for trash drop off and some recycling. The transfer station is maintained by HInsdale County Road and Bridge Department. Hinsdale County transfers trash from the Transfer Station to Gunnison County Landfill for disposal.
Waste
The Transfer Station accepts for disposal household garbage, building materials, some appliances, furniture, tires, refrigerators (refrigerant removed), batteries and motor and cooking oil. Mattresses are NOT accepted. Organic material including tree branches, stumps and yard cleanings are available to dump at a reduced rate.
Payment for trash dumped at the transfer station can be done on-site by check or credit card. NO CASH IS ACCEPTED. Charge accounts can be opened with a $100 deposit by calling the Hinsdale County Administration office at 970-944-2225. Accounts are billed monthly and MUST be kept current. There will be a NSF charge for any returned checks.
Recycling
The Hinsdale County Transfer Station offers free recycling of cardboard, glass and aluminum. Dumping of E-Waste (electronics, computers, TVs) is available at $.75 per Pound. It is unlawful to dispose of E-Waste with other trash.
